The Tea House
A collaboration between Sasa Works and Clayworks
A space of contemplation and beauty. The space is an encounter with the elemental, Clayworks panels and shoji paper walls meet round chestnut poles and oak frame, which is jointed and pegged. The space is a coming together of many crafts and hands. Including lighting by PSLab and naturally dyed textiles by Indigo Works and Working Cloth.
The intention of the space was to invite an intimacy of encounter with the elements of clay, wood, fabric, paper and light. The raw and natural qualities of the materials and the way they are put together invoke a relationship with the senses, with the intention to open the heart and bring a stillness to all who enter the space.
The structure was designed and made working with Chestnut that was selected from a Coppiced woodland in Sussex. These sculptural pieces become the posts which sit on limestone and meet with green oak beams.
